We Can Do Better!
I have recently observed an increase in small errors – things that could easily have been prevented by paying better attention to your Circ work. These small errors reflect badly on our department and the work we do, take attention away from all the good work we do, and is not good customer service. Errors cause extra work when we have to search and follow-up with the borrower – time that could be better spent. Please be attentive to the task at hand when performing circ tasks.
A few recent problems:
Reserve books and DVD’s, CD’s, Browsing DVD’s, headphones and power cords/adapters that have been re-shelved without being properly checked-in
Materials that should have been put on the hold shelves have been sent to the shelves
@ Main – re-shelving carts that have been sent to re-shelving with things that don’t belong – Vt Coll, Gov Docs, Browsing books and DVD’s, an Armstrong book, ILL and NExpress books, a faculty author book…
(please check all carts carefully for errors prior to re-shelving)
Equipment parts missing from cases (never check in if there are parts missing)
I know we can do better! Thanks! 🙂

Book dealers are not welcome to purchase items for resale on Tuesday, Nov. 17th). FMI, contact Joseph Watson 443-5487 jwatson@middlebury.edu
Computer and Printer Status
Technology Help Desk staff have developed a very cool tool for checking the status of printers and availability of computers. Pass the word to students looking for a place to work and print. Hurray! Click here to check it out!
I FEAR submissions
In case anyone gets “I FEAR”  submissions I started an envelope for next Mondays display.   It’s on the corner of Steve’s old desk.

Thank you!
Dear Circ students,
Just a quick note to say THANK YOU!
I know that recent Circ staffing changes have impacted your jobs with us at our 3 branches. Thanks for welcoming new supervisors at Main Circ and for adjusting to the reduced supervisor presence at Music and Armstrong. I know that we expect a lot from you – and I know it can be a challenge at times to fulfill your work requirements – especially when your studies demand so much of your time and energy! I know this week is especially tough for many of you – so a BIG thanks for all your good work!
I have seen excellence in each of you at different times, for different reasons, and I would like to start recognizing a student employee of the week.
Feel free to nominate someone you think deserves recognition for doing a great job, and for being a great co-worker. Circ supervisors can also nominate student employees for excellence, good work and any special achievements.
I’ll post the student-employee-of the-week on the Circ blog on Fridays. To nominate a Circ student employee, please email me with their name and a brief reason why (waagen@middlebury.edu) by Thursday of every week.
Thanks!
Elin

BOOK SALE INFO for Fall 2009 – Main Library
From Joseph Watson :
BOOK SALE INFO for Fall 2009 – Main Library
The sale will start promptly at 9:00am on Tuesday, 11/17 and continue during regular open hours until the morning of the 23rd. (Items become free on Friday so the real “sale” ends then.)
The books will be downstairs in the Harmon Periodicals Reading Area.
Items may be purchased at the Circulation Desk with cash or checks made out to Middlebury College.
The books should all be desensitized already.
Do not agree to let people “save” things behind the Circ. Desk to purchase later. Items must be purchased and taken away, or left on the carts for someone else to buy.
Full price will be charged for everything on Tues. and Wed. The prices will be cut in half (paperbacks two for the price of one) on Thurs. and everything becomes free on Fri. and throughout the weekend.
The items in the sale are either gifts we’re not keeping or things we’ve withdrawn from the collection. All items have been reviewed by a librarian. All proceeds from the sale go toward purchasing new materials for the collections.
Questions can be directed to Joseph in the Preservation & Processing. X5487.
Thanks!
