User Services Weekly Report

Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks
Highlights:
• Looking forward to the Thanksgiving break
• VERY quiet at all 3 libraries on the Wed prior to Thanksgiving
• Prep for 24/7; scheduling; orientation; reviewing/editing check-list
• Gearing up for peak in returns and re-shelving
• User Services goals discussion
• Forms: reviewing existing; evaluating use of Drupal web forms instead of existing pdf forms for circ and reserves; which forms can we eliminate or re-design into web forms?
• Student staff: Scheduling galore! Exams, 24/7, holiday breaks, Winter Term; staffing Arms with Main students for WT
• Book sale: Circ busy with $ transactions/purchasing
• Web pages: Borrowing pages under development in Drupal and LIS wiki; continuing to work on the Borrowing page and wiki documentation; Music mostly complete at this point; guest borrower web form in Drupal; forms
• Web Team: IA and more; work happening at dept level; lunch with other team leaders
• Curricular Technology Team: Assessment meeting
• Digital Archives Team: Web page work…mostly complete at this point)
• Set up auto-login for Main front desk circ computers
• Self-booking of loaner equipment – exploring options, system functionalities and loan rules; filled out self booking worksheet for Innovative, met with Systems staff
• Main: Busier Saturday activity; low activity at Main on Sunday;, busy evenings before Thanksgiving break
• Room reservations: busy activity point
• Mill Circ: Tweaked Ilsley DVD loan rules
• Reserves: Investigating ways to streamline the Reserves requesting process; F09 reserves keep rolling in along with early requests for W10 reserves
• Billing activity and refunds up to date
• Loaner equipment: Prep for equipment check-in workflow change to reduce error rate of missing parts in “kits”; added booking maintenance; to evening routine to improve workflow/reduce booking conflicts; continued heavy equipment use
• NExpress: Conference call –clarified policy on setting limits on requests
• Weekend – Main: Moderately busy at the desk. Quite a few students studying, “gearing up” for the final push; busy in print/copy rooms
• Webinar – Techsoup – Tech Training Made Simple with Online Videos
Challenges
• Open at branches on Wed before Thanksgiving – very little activity; reconsider being open? Branches and Main VERY quiet.
• Overdue equipment – Back-to-back bookings necessary due to heavy demand
• Retirements: Dean, Judy, Kristin
• Circ printer – Printer settings defaulting to the wrong tray and requiring manual override; Duplexer is also jamming (fixed)
