Front doors power switches at Armstrong

Openers at Armstrong are consistently finding the switches to the front doors in the wrong position when opening.    When closing or opening you don’t need to touch the black switches at all.   The red switches are switched to the off position at closing (O), and the on position (|) at opening.     It’s important not to put the black switches on as this will hold the doors open.   Closers I will catch up you and show each in person.

The End of Retrieval Services

the-end-is-near
It’s not the end of the world – just the end of retrieval services.
As of October 1, you’ll notice that the “place request” button in MidCat no longer displays for materials with an “available” status. Due to decreased staffing resources, Circulation will no longer be able to retrieve requested materials from library stacks for on-campus borrowers.
While it was a valued service for our on-campus borrowers, a large amount of staff time was used to fill the many requests, time that must now be redirected towards core Circulation services.
We’re very happy to help show you how to find library materials on your own – just ask! Thanks for your understanding.

Liaisons to Academic Departments

LIS Liaison Teams
Academic Consulting Services designates a primary Liaison as the LIS representative to each academic department.
For Liaison contact information, see the link above.
New for Fall 2009 — Liaisons work with a Team .
Your Liaison should be the first contact for:
* Library collection development
* Research classes and assistance
* Research Consultations
* LIS updates for faculty
* Support for Web pages, Segue (courseware), digitization, and other technology projects

If you are uncertain whom to contact about an LIS resource or service, ask the Liaison.

Liaisons and their team members are available to help plan projects involving technology or the library. They also try to stay informed about developments within academic departments, so LIS will be able to provide research and technological support, as needed.

Turn off (and back on!) DVD player and TV

We have a looped DVD playing at the entrance to Armstrong for the duration of the Clifford Symposium.  When you close Armstrong each evening, please stop the DVD, turn off the DVD player and turn off the TV.

When you open Armstrong each morning, please turn on the TV and the DVD player, and start the DVD.  If the DVD doesn’t display to the TV screen then switch the input on the DVD player (sometimes it resets to VCR).

Thanks!

ID required for checking out materials from all libraries

A reminder to our circulation students that IDs are required to check out items from the Library.   Iniatially  you will  get a few patrons who are not happy with this.    If you find someone upset or questioning this policy, you can remind them that it actually helps to guarantee items are being checked out to the correct patron.   Also feel free to allow someone an exception once, but remind them to bring their card the next time.   I also find it helpful to quickly double check as you swipe the card that the name on the screen matches the ID.

From the LIS policies  “A valid Middlebury College ID is required to transact library business. Library privileges are extended to faculty, students, alumni and staff of the Middlebury College community and to guest borrowers by application”.

Please feel free to talk with any supervisor if you have any questions.
