Progress on Goals:

GOAL: Develop reliable and accurate measurements at circulation service points to document activity and quality of services.

* Improved desktop stats recording at Main

Goal: Develop a proposal for staffing plan; LIS services, circulation workflows for Davison Library during BLSE and BLWC Summer 09

* Continued work; gathering feedback; writing Circ staffing proposal
* Contacted BLSE staff (Karin Browne) with recommendations of number of books faculty may request to send to BL locations:
o BLNM (10 – 30 titles)
o BLVT (50 – 80 titles)
o Recommended to BLSE staff that we promote the use of electronic reserves for courses where it may be appropriate.

Goal: Develop regular schedule and content for student training; increase staff supervision skills; increase ability of student workers to work independently utilizing good judgment; formalize and improve consistency of documentation, supervision and training by Circ supervisors; consistent expectations and knowledge base of student workers and supervisors across all branches.

* Recent challenges with individual student employee work performance: routine tasks not being done; some bending of the rules; will address this in upcoming performance reviews

Goal: Create effective schedule of Circ meetings and paths of communication within workgroup

* Brendan Owens from the Media Lab joined us for a mini-workshop about wikis, blogs, RSS feed readers during our regularly scheduled meeting time
* Regular monthly Circ meeting – used for updates on equipment; changes; news

Goal: Develop workflow policies/processes and standards for removing personal data from loaner equipment.

* Training and instructions for reimaging Mac laptops – workflow changes in progress

Goal: Develop Media Materials Workflow

* Inserted dividers into LD collection to facilitate correct reserving of LD collection
* Setting aside DVD’s – much improved workflow for Circ; 4 incidents (at least 2 were not FMMC screenings) of having to say no to a student needing to view the morning of a scheduled screening

Highlights:

* Carnival break Thursday and Friday, reduced hours at Mus and Arm; full hours at Main; quite steady activity at Main throughout carnival break; no issues scheduling student to work;
* Armstrong Carnival recess: head count at closing on Thursday 2/19/09, 5 pm – 7 to 8 students; head count at closing on Friday 2/20/09, 5 pm – 12 students

* Reserves: Next-Gen Eres reading made available to others in LIS; pace still busy

· Student employees: Main – student evaluations; continued 1:1 student employee training; performance issues – expectations?

· Staff rotation and cross-training: Todd at Main , Maura at Arm on Tuesday mornings; training ongoing – ILL at Arm, Main Checklist

· Thesis carrels: requests still trickling in; approx 40 carrels still available

· Equipment: Re-imaging tutorial/documentation; additional VGA adapters (for Powerbook/Macbook Pro) added to collection; training staff members to reimage Macbooks; two new Macbooks added to Armstrong pool for fac/staff use; five laptop locks finally getting underway, should be ready to circ next week

· Main: Continue educating new Feb students at the desk and introducing them to the world of reserves and requesting items at the main circ desk

Armstrong: meeting – updates, round-table; completed Gov Doc weeding project; ongoing Gov Doc withdrawal project; Bindery shipments – finished ’08 journals – ’09 arriving;

· NExpress/ILL: request activity busy; ILL activity up at Arm and Mus; surge in NExpress incoming items

· Borrower data base: documentation on wiki; upsurge in

· Print management: testing in 242 – signage, user documentation,

· LS, BLSE, M@M – summer planning

· Team requests submitted

· Meetings/workshops: Media Lab presented workshop on wiki, blog, Google Reader, RSS at regular monthly Circ meeting; HR MiddLeader Roundtable Discussion – “Leading in Challenging Times”; “Preparing for your PFDP – Performance Feedback and Development Process”

· Planning Arts and Crafts Exhibit

· Updated web page with new loan periods and changes to default replacement values

· Organized “What we do” list and offered some next-step suggestions on blog – ongoing exploration of reviewing what we do

Challenges
* ILL activity high at Music
* Facility issues – leak in roof
* Equipment: Heavy demand for projectors, USB mics, and external hard drives
* Printer issues over weekend: at one point we had no functioning printers at Main; students sent to Sunderland to print
* Yellow cables – all gone – time to grieve?
