Memo/FYI

28 May 2008

Thanks for all the good help! A few reminders…

ASK!

If you are not sure of the answer or procedure, please ask a supervisor! We love – and expect – you to ask questions!

Avoid checking library materials out to the wrong borrower!

If a borrower does not have a Midd ID, please ask for another form of photo ID and call up the borrower account by NAME, then verify ID number, to be 100% sure that you are in the right record…do NOT rely solely on typing in the ID number

If a borrower needs a Midd item that is currently checked out, please encourage them to try placing a NExpress request before placing a recall request.

Lots of claims returned items lately!

Please check in all returns carefully and completely!

Do not let returns pile up!

Provide excellent service – anticipate needs and go the extra step!

Refer questions and concerns to a supervisor for follow-up.

Use expiration date as due date?

You will see this message for any borrower who has a library record expiration date that comes before the default item due date.

Please press “yes” so that due dates do not go beyond the time that students and faculty are on campus. Please refer questions and concerns to a supervisor.

Equipment check-out

Check for all parts!

Equipment returns

Check for all parts!

Do not accept equipment from the other libraries – remind borrower to return directly to the branch they borrowed it from

Laptops – Main Library

Whenever you charge out a laptop to a student, please remind them the laptop can only be used in the library. Tell borrowers the exact time the laptop is due back. The café is not in the library.

Reserve media

May not leave the library – tell borrower the exact time the media is due back and remind borrowers that “media is library use only”

Hourly book reserves

Remind borrowers that hourly reserves are 2 hour, in house use only – and tell them the exact time a book is due back.

Reserve and/or Media materials

If you can’t find what you are looking for on the shelf, look it up in the catalog to verify status. If you still can’t find it – alert a supervisor and/or the Reserve Office – so that staff can alert faculty to a problem with any materials critical to their teaching

Reserve and screening DVD’s – Main Library

Be sure that all DVD’s are visually inspected for condition at the time of check-out to the screener.

Record Alarms – Main Library

Please note all incidents of the alarm going off! Say “Sorry for the problem. We just need to ascertain what set off the alarm”. Try to identify what set off the alarm – by process of elimination
