TOP 10 LIST OF THINGS TO KNOW – EARLY SUMMER 2008

TOP TEN CIRC THINGS TO KNOW

1. Carrels
Carrels in rooms/suites are not available for individual use but rather are set aside for specific Schools. They are labeled for each language. Carrels 2-68 are for individual use by any student, faculty, or staff member in LS, BL, and regular AY. Due date on those carrels is August 31.

2. Lockers
Available to anyone, normal loan period of 28 days.

3. LS Student Handbook and inserts – on the front desk – has some good info relevant to summer. Also this link has great info http://www.middlebury.edu/academics/lis/help/new/summer_info.htm

4. New Equipment
Lots of new digital media options!
iPods – same as academic year – 7 day loan, sign user agreement, can be renewed on My Midcat, NOT pre-loaded with any languages

5. Summer students:
This summer we welcomed Katie Cyr, Rachel Ochako, Andrew Amstutz, Momo Merritt, Matt Brown, Nikhil Ramburn, Mahmoud Abdou, Loki Phadera to Main Circ; Jisun Song and Andrew Throdahl to Music Circ; Chinyere Amadi, Leonard Badeau, Emily Gaewsky, and Nick Immonje to Armstrong. The Music and Armstrong student workers will call Main Desk supervisors during weekend and evening hours with questions, issues, problems etc.

5. NExpress and Midd retrieval workflow – the week of 6/23 BL requests will be added to the mix

6. Bread Loaf Midcat requests
Some Bread Loaf Midcat requests may be for reserve. Please watch for any notes in Midcat requests to indicate the items are needed for reserve. Please put item and printed request slip on the reserve shelf for processing.
7. Film Screenings
Lots of screening for language schools this summer. Screening reserve items are shelved separately in the reserve DVDs area (at the end of media items). Often, the screenings are not listed by course number, but by department. Instead of a screening for SPAN6695, the screening is for course “Spanish Screening”.
8. Library Hours
Similar to Academic Year hours, with the exception of Sun – Thurs when Armstrong closes at 10 pm and Main at 12 midnight
9. Student summer workers who graduated in ’08 – may keep student status through summer – so that they may borrow media and equipment. If they are still here in the fall – we will need to change them to alum borrower type.
10. Have fun!
