The hiking activity for this week has been set! Sunday, July 24th we will walk along the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail, located near Robert Frost’s 150 acre farm in Vermont! The 1.2 Mile walk can hardly be called a hike, but this is a chance to go outside and enjoy some of the greatest poems of the 20th century! Sign up below!

七月十六号落日时法文学校的一位叫Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil的形象艺术家展开为明德法文学校百年庆典所创作的互动表演：《不灭之灯》(I Will Keep a Light Burning). 这次富有法文学校未来100年“坚持不渝”象征意义的表演以800根蜡烛来展示2116年7月16号天空夜晚的形象。发文学校欢迎明德各个语言学校来欣赏这个特别活动！
On Saturday July, 16 at nightfall on Battell Beach, French visual artist Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil will carry out his performance entitled I Will Keep a Light Burning. This is a spectacular 800-candle rendition of the night sky as it will appear on July, 16 2116. The idea is that the 100-year old French School should still be alive in 100 years through this symbol. All students from the Chinese school are invited to attend this event!

Hello volleyball team members! The intercollegiate volleyball tournament has been set up, you can look at the tournament schedule below! Every match will be with a different school within our group, including, the Russian School, German School, Japanese School and our own school. Every match is on Sunday at 4PM, so make sure to arrive on time.
Also, Ye Laoshi has added more time for practice and switched locations for practice. The new times and locations are as follows:
Wednesday 4:00-5:00 between Hepburn and the chapel
Friday 4:30-5:30 between Hepburn and the chapel

这个周末我们会沿着明德的TAM（环绕明德步道）爬山，欣赏明德周边的自然风景。在下面的附件是我们爬山的路线。
起点：罗斯餐厅前面
时间：周日10：30出发，估计2：00前返回 (想在明德镇内吃饭的话，请带上一点钱）
距离：大概6英里，山路又陡又窄
这次活动安排得比较轻松，不用报名，周日10：30以前在罗斯餐厅集合就好！
注意：如果下雨的话，我们会把这次活动推迟到下个星期！

This Sunday we will be hiking a leg of the TAM (Trail Around Middlebury); the route we will be taking (from the organic farm to the Arnold Bridge and down to Middlebury proper).
Meeting point: In front of Ross dining hall
Time: Start at 10:30, Likely done before 2:00PM
Distance: Roughly 6 miles on steep, narrow terrain
This time there are no sign-ups, just meet on Sunday before 10:30 and we will be good to go!
*Notice*: If it rains on Sunday, we will move the activity to next weekend!

大家好！明德中文暑校第一周转瞬既逝，这个周末当学生勤快地学习时第二周不声不响就来了。这周课外活动要开始，已经报名的同学可以在下面的名单找活动的地点与时间。
如果你之后发现课程的负担太沉，一两个小时都抽不出来，也可以不参加课外活动。然而，天天勤奋苦读的话，你很快就会感觉特别疲惫。不能为了一个稍微好点的成绩完全忽略心里方面的需求；当快乐不再是一个认真去追求的东西而只是一种在工作中出没无定的副产品时，人生的意义就会消失。
Hail all! Your first week in Middlebury is officially over! Some may have noticed that time in Middlebury is a lot like Sauron’s ring — continually shifting, expanding, tightening. With the coming of the second week, everyone should now be familiar with the immediate surroundings of campus and the pace of courses, so there shouldn’t be too many surprises in day-to-day life. This week we will start extracurricular activities; you can look at the rosters below to find the time and location of the activities you picked.
At Middlebury, there are two types of pleasure: “enjoyment” pleasure and “reward” pleasure. Enjoyment pleasure comes from the hobbies that you engage in for fun, whether that be swimming, taking a walk, calligraphy, exploring the cuisine that Middlebury has to offer, etc. Reward pleasure is the happiness you get from a job well done, namely the gargantuan intellectual strides from boiling yourself in Chinese day in and day out. Moving forward, you must ask yourself, can I survive on reward pleasure alone? What are the activities that I must do to be able to sustain a healthy body and mind? One of Middlebury’s greatest struggles is finding the golden ratio between these two ostensibly contradistinct forms of pleasure.
