Leading the Global Economy: Foreign Service Economic Officers Advance Economic Prosperity
Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 | 7:30 – 9:00pm ET
Foreign Service Economic Officers build and maintain positive economic and trade relations between the U.S. and other countries. While having an economics background is useful, it’s not required. They focus on developing relationships with important economic figures, including those in the business community, the government and opposition, non-governmental organizations, academia, and multilateral organizations. They promote U.S. economic and commercial interests. Their reporting and analysis of economic conditions and trends in the host country influence U.S. policy formulation and implementation.
Economic Officers receive extensive in-house training in economics, trade, commercial diplomacy, energy, and environmental issues. They influence and implement economic and trade policies as they help unravel the complexities of a global economy.

Harvard Law School Future Leaders in Law program
This program will bring together individuals with a range of lived experiences, primarily individuals from first-generation and less advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, for a weeklong residential fellowship at Harvard Law School (HLS) in Cambridge, MA. This program is designed to prepare participants for admission to law schools around the nation.
The in-residence component of this program will take place July 17, 2023 – July 21, 2023, and will include a trip to Paul, Weiss in Manhattan, NY. Future Leaders in Law is a fully funded program. Costs of participating in this program will be covered for participants. Current Juniors or Seniors, and recent graduates, in good standing from an accredited college or university may apply. All majors are welcome, and the application deadline is April 30, 2023.

Law school early deferral programs at Columbia and Harvard.
Columbia Law School’s Leadership Experience Admission Deferral (“LEAD”) Fellowship program is hosting an information session on Wednesday, April 12, from 12:15 – 1:15 PM EST.
LEAD is the deferred admissions program through which qualified undergraduate juniors and seniors can be admitted to Columbia Law School with the understanding that they will defer matriculation for two years after graduating from college. During the two-year deferral period, admitted LEAD Fellows must be meaningfully employed on a full-time basis and/or engaged in a venture, partnership, fellowship, or graduate studies. Some successful applicants may even receive a funding grant from the law school to advance a venture or project during this time.

Intern-Human Rights Initiative at CSIS in DC
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The Human Rights Initiative (HRI) at CSIS was launched in June 2014 and is the only program of its kind in the Washington think tank community. The HRI brings together key actors in a cross-sectoral and multi-disciplinary approach, seeking to catalyze game-changing solutions to the most pressing global human rights challenges. The program works on a wide range of contemporary human rights issues, from Afghanistan to Ukraine, as well as thematic work on topics such as forced labor in global supply chains and the use of technology in migration management.

Middlebury in DC Intern now available
Under the general guidance of the Director of Middlebury in DC the intern will perform certain administrative duties, mainly pertaining to event management and logistical support for events (before, during, and after normal business hours) held in the Washington, DC, office organized by Middlebury College, Middlebury Institute of International Studies, and James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) staff.
The intern will also conduct research and write timely analyses and other publications related to CNS, the country’s largest organization dedicated to education and analysis on limiting the spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Middlebury in DC is situated in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C., at 1400 K Street NW. The office provides a space for faculty lectures, alumni gatherings, academic course offerings, and student recruiting events.

Integrity Initiatives International (III) is dedicated to strengthening the enforcement of criminal laws to punish and deter leaders who are corrupt and regularly violate human rights.
The Special Assistant to the Chair of III is a unique opportunity for a new or recent graduate to gain experience working closely with III’s partners, who include leading international jurists, former cabinet ministers, and civil society leaders, among other prominent individuals from around the world.
The position is temporary for 15 months, after which time there is the possibility of an extension or the transition to regular employee based on III’s needs. For the exceptional candidate, there may be opportunities for significant professional growth as the scope of III’s work expands.
