To transform agriculture, we need more farmers practicing agroforestry. Savanna Institute’s Apprenticeship Program provides rare, hands-on opportunities to gain experience in agroforestry.
As coordinator of this program I work with ten farms in six Midwest states to create on-farm learning opportunities for agroforestry apprentices. For a minimum of 10 weeks over the summer (a flexible 10 weeks that works with your schedule), apprentices work with mentors on their farm practicing hands-on agroforestry. Apprentices also join a cohort that takes Savanna Institute’s online agroforestry coursework together for free. You’ll be connected with a wide network of perennial people and education materials by the end of the season!
Apprentices can apply here until May 2023. After this mentors will take applicants on a rolling basis for Fall apprenticeship opportunities if still available.
Do you have more questions about Savanna Institute’s Apprenticeship Program? Please join me for a webinar this Thursday at 3pm Central Time to meet some mentors and get a wider perspective on future careers in agroforestry from past apprentices.
This from Donald Anselmi (he/him), Associate Director of the Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul’s School:
“The summer internship opportunity at St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH is a great opportunity for any students considering a career path in education, especially at the high school or college level. I attended a liberal arts college and even though I didn’t major in education, my summer internship teaching at summer programs really helped me think more about what I could do with my interests in Spanish and history! At ASP, interns will be provided with free lodging and food and we will also pay for their travel costs. And there is a $4000 stipend on top of all of that as well! This is an invaluable growth experience even if your students aren’t considering education/teaching as career! If you are interested, please keep reading as we want to cast the widest net possible!
Here at St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH, the Advanced Studies Program crew has been enjoying our travels throughout New Hampshire this fall, connecting with hundreds of motivated and talented high school students. Our hope is to visit all 88 high schools before the end of 2022!
While the primary focus of this program since its inception in 1956 has been to provide an enriching and engaging experience for New Hampshire high school students as they think about their options after graduating, we also recognize that it isn’t as powerful and lifechanging for these adolescents without the care and attention of the teachers and college interns who empower and guide them in all aspects of the program in this five week immersive experience each summer. Many college interns come in thinking about teaching as a possible career, and so many more leave knowing that this might be their next step after the mentorship and real-life experiences they have throughout the summer in the classroom, outside on the 1800 acre campus, and on the dorm.
You can learn more about the ASP experience more at this link and the classes offered at this link. These courses touch on many majors ranging from the sciences to the humanities, but we would love to have more college students apply who are studying engineering, computer science, biology, coding, data analysis, and genetics. If anybody from your institution is interested, they can reach out to me or start the application process here. We really need science and math majors!“

Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day.
Learn more about Green Corps’ paid environmental organizing fellowship.
The planet needs all the help it can get. To win now and build a strong foundation for lasting progress, we need people who know how to organize: to run organizations and campaigns that will inspire the support and action we need to save our environment. Our program starts with intensive classroom training. You learn about issues and campaigns, organizing theory and principles, and skills from recruiting volunteers to staging a media event. Then, you move to a more hands-on experience. You make a difference on important campaigns to transition our country to clean energy, protect wildlife, and more. For example, Lauren Karpinski, an organizer from the Green Corps Class of 2019, brought together a coalition of 40 groups that helped win a landmark solar energy bill in Arkansas.
We’re accepting the top 20 candidates for our 2023-2024 program. Graduates will join our more than 400 alumni who are leading environmental campaigns and organizations across the country. If you’re passionate about the environment and ready to learn and practice the craft of organizing, apply and learn more. Green Corps’ year-long program begins in August 2023 with introductory classroom training, and continues with field placements in multiple locations across the U.S. Candidates must be willing to relocate. Please contact Margaret Corcoran at margaret@greencorps.org with additional questions.
Green Corps is part of The Public Interest Network, which operates and supports organizations committed to a shared vision of a better world and a strategic approach to social change. Visit publicinterestnetwork.org to learn more. Green Corps is an equal opportunity employer. Green Corps’ benefits package includes medical insurance for employees and dependents, needs-based student loan assistance, commuter benefit program, sick pay (60-72 hours/year depending on location), and 80 hours (2 weeks) of accrued vacation. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
