Community Engagement would like to share these two local volunteer needs with faculty and staff members!

Addison Community Action/CVOEO is looking for volunteers to assist in preparing basic Federal and State income taxes for low-income families and individuals. Training is provided through the IRS VITA program through online self- study and testing. Volunteers will assist Debbie with greeting clients, completing intake sheet/review sheet and preparing basic returns. Tax assistance starts February 1 through April 15, Monday-Thursday. Office space is provided. Please call Debbie at 802-388-2285 or e-mail, dgoodri@cvoeo.org.

United Way of Addison County needs volunteers for the upcoming Fast Tax Program offered at the United Way of Addison County! This program allows tax filers with annual income of $60,000 or less to file their own personal tax returns online for free. Volunteers do not offer tax advice, but simply sit with filers while they prepare their own tax returns, answering questions about the website and the general filing process. This is a volunteer position with flexible scheduling, approximately 4 to 8 hours per week, beginning in January 2015 and ending April 15, 2016. Supervised training will be provided on site at the United Way of Addison County. Volunteer positions require studying, testing, and passing the IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct Training (studying takes one to two hours, and the open book, multiple choice exam usually only takes a few minutes). We also train our volunteers through the IRS Link and Learn online training program. Training typically takes between 10-20 hours and can be completed at home at your own pace. It is an excellent way for you to learn more about filing your own personal income tax return as well as helping to empower others in our community—while saving money!

Interested volunteers should call the United Way of Addison County at 802-388-7189 and ask for Lizzy Reed, Volunteer Center Coordinator. Lizzy can also be contacted via email at lizzy@unitedwayaddisoncounty.org. Thank you!
