In this post we’ll introduce you to a new member of the Middlebury College staff. Please join us as we welcome Jonathan to campus!
Jonathan Kemp joined Sciences Technical Support Services in February as Telescope Specialist and will be working closely with Physics Department faculty, staff, and students in McCardell Bicentennial Hall. He will be supporting curricular and research uses of the College Observatory while also reinstating and expanding its outreach activities. Jonathan has a degree in Astronomy from Columbia University, where he has also served as a research staff member investigating cataclysmic variable stars and fostering amateur-professional collaborations involving small telescopes.
He has pursued observational research projects in Chile, South Africa, and Arizona, and has operated and observed with large telescopes on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Jonathan relocated to Vermont from Hawaii in 2012.
